Darija Vranešić Bender

Asst. Prof. Darija Vranešić Bender, B.Sc, Ph.D., works actively in the field of nutrition since April 2001. She is the Head of a nutritional consulting company, Vitaminoteka Ltd., and works as clinical nutritionist at the Unit of Clinical Nutrition of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, as a part of the hospital nutrition support team. Her special interest is diet therapy in IBD, IBS and coeliac disease, as she works in inpatient and outpatient settings educating patients diagnosed with diseases of GI tract. She obtained her B.Sc. degree in biotechnology in 2000, and her Ph.D. in the field of nutrition in 2005. As part of her PhD research she worked on the project „Assessment of nutritional status of gastroenterological patients“ at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb.

She became Assistant Professor in May 2012 at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb. She teaches diet therapy, nutrition and clinical nutrition at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology and the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb (regular and study in english language). She participated in several research projects financed by the Croatian Ministry of Science and Technology (Coeliac disease in children-072-1083107-2054, Physical activity and health status-0034207) as well as in international projects endorsed by ESPEN: „LLL programme in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism“ (BG-03-B-F-PP-166039 of Leonardo da Vinci) and „Nutrition day“. She published 10 A1 papers, 12 papers indexed cited in Scopus and Medline, she is the co-author of several chapters in 4 textbooks and 3 handbooks of the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb.

She is the co-author of the Handbook of Clinical Nutrition (used for the postgraduate Course of Clinical Nutrition). She wrote 2 popular books about nutrition sold in more than 6.000 copies. She is the president of the Croatian Institute of Nutrition, vice-president of the Croatian Society of Clinical Nutrition Croatian Medical Association, council member of the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN), and secretary of the Adriatic Club of Clinical Nutrition (ACCN). She was member of the organising committee for several national, regional and European professional and scientific conferences and congresses in the field of nutrition and clinical nutrition. She speaks english, german, italian and portuguese.
